Mind Over Matter and The Placebo Effect In Crystal Healing.

Many of the detractors of Crystal Healing and alternative therapies often use words like “hocus pocus”. They also say, “it’s all mind over matter “and “it’s little more than a placebo”. All this in an effort to dismiss or minimise what they don’t or won’t understand.

It was just the other day and I was asked the question yet again. “Is crystal healing just mind over matter and really nothing more than a placebo effect”?

When it comes to so-called alternative or natural medicines or healing modalities, you too have probably heard the words; “It’s all mind over matter”. “None of that stuff really works, you just get better because you think yourself into it”. Or “it might as well be a placebo”, or something similar.

Alas, many of us who believe in these remedies and practices and are working in this field, immediately take offense and get defensive. We jump in to defend and justify our position. Especially when we have our own firsthand experience as to their efficacy; A noble action indeed; because we are not just operating on blind faith and prayer. (a whole healing modality in itself and never wasted). Rather we are acting upon lifetimes of gathered and forwarded empirical evidence and increasing scientific validation in support of these.

But does it really matter? There is no doubt that there is an increasing amount of evidence in support of crystal healing and other natural and alternative methods of healing. And I have no doubt there are lots of people who could stand and very convincingly argue a winning case. Even for hours on end. But I say this is not necessary!

The important issue is – Does the patient get better?

Even with our modern pharmaceutical medicines and allopathic practice, we could present the same blind argument; that much of its result is indeed mind over matter, or placebo. But here also, does it really matter if the patient is returned to good health and equilibrium.

At the end of the day all that matters is that the problem is alleviated. Preferably with no side effects. Also that the person who was suffering gets better and returns to a state of good health. This is the wanted objective. Now let’s say that crystal healing was indeed a case of mind over matter, and placebo effect—they got better, didn’t they?
