Angelite Meaning – General Information and History.
Angelite or Blue Anhydrite is a fairly new discovery in the crystal, gem, and mineral world. Discovered in 1987 in Peru, during the Harmonic Conversion, Angelite (CaSO4) is a solid pale blue form of calcium sulphate or “anhydrite”, which is gypsum that has lost water and crystallized. It sometimes shows traces of white calcium. It is in the orthorhombic crystal system and has a Mohs hardness factor of 4.
Angelite is a variety of Anhydrite which is a relatively common sedimentary mineral that forms massive rock layers. It does not form directly but is the result of the dewatering of the rock-forming mineral gypsum. Distinctly developed crystals are somewhat rare, with Angelite usually presenting the form of cleavage masses. It is a soft stone that will convert back into gypsum if immersed in water, so do not wear it while bathing or swimming.
