A cabochon, often referred to as a cab for short, is a certain cut of stone that is very fashionable in jewellery designs that include gemstones, as well as being popular for use in crystal healing layouts. A cabochon can be made from just about any kind of stone.
A cabochon, derives its name from the Middle French caboche (head), describing a stone which has been shaped and polished. Its defining elements have more to do with its shape: it is flat on one side and domed or rounded on the other side. The most popular is the oval shaped cabochon.
Cabochons are our personal favourites for use in crystal healing, mainly due to the stability of their flat bottoms, along with the easy and even distribution of energy through their domed tops and because they look elegant and attractive, which contributes greatly to any healing layout.
