Prehnite Meaning – General Information and History.
Prehnite is a calcium-aluminium silicate mineral that crystallises in the form of masses, globular formations, botryoidal formations, and stalactites. Rarely found in crystal form, but when found, they are usually very tiny prismatic crystals. Its normal colour is a light yellow or green, but it can also be white, tan, grey, or colourless. It was first discovered at the Cape of Good Hope by A.G. Werner in 1788. The Dutch military Colonel Hendrik Von Prehn was in charge of the region at the time, and Werner named it after him. Prehnite belongs to the orthorhombic crystal system, has a Mohs hardness factor of 6–6.5, and a vitreous to pearly lustre.
