Hello and welcome. It really makes us feel good to know we have such caring and concerned customers and clients and we are taking this opportunity to thank you for your enquiries about our safety and the effect the Queensland floods had upon us. We came out of it virtually unscathed with no damage to our home or healing centre or any of our stock. Our worst damage was the blow out of our dam wall (it will be some time until this gets fixed), and large ruts cut into the driveway and water over the floors of our storage sheds which was caused by blocked drainage rather than rising flood water.
Actually, during the worst of the flooding we were stranded in the Hunter Valley, as all the roads north were cut as we were making our way home after taking a few days out to visit family in Sydney. This caused a delay in the processing of orders and again we would like to thank those of you who were affected for your patience and understanding.
In the aftermath of the floods lots of people were affected by the physical and emotional devastation that had been wrought and a great need for healing arose, so we joined with other healers and drummers around the country on Sat 29th Jan at our centre 'Akasha Keep' in a Chain of Drumming Circles to raise money for flood relief and to provide healing for the people and the land.
A group of 12 of us drummed, chanted and meditated in our healing circle and of course we were linked to all the other gathered groups and individuals around the country, who joined in at the time. Many had told us they would donate to their local community or to the larger formal funds. Our group raised $200 which was added to the huge jar of money on our local newsagents counter to be used for replacing lost school items for our local school children. This will have a very real and direct effect of providing relief by helping these children get back to normal and assuring that their education will not be too disrupted. The local school principles will be consulted to choose the children most in need of this help. Each of the other groups would have chosen some similar local effort or individuals to donate to-which collectively would have amounted to quite a tidy sum. And again my thanks go to all the participants and organizers around the world who took part in this event. I am sure this collective effort has made a significant difference.
Just as an aside, or perhaps an indication or sign being delivered on the day, as I was preparing the circle for the afternoon's event, for about 30 minutes or so the circle it was full of butterflies, there was easily more than 50 of them and of several different varieties as well.
I really must make more of an effort to have a camera ready and get some pictures for the stories as some of you have requested. Guess you could say I'm not that much into taking photos.
As I am writing this newsletter we are dealing with the aftermath of TC Yasi-what a monster! Yet for all of its size and fury, we got of pretty lightly, all things considered. So far I have not heard of any loss of life or serious injury. I cannot help but wonder what modifying affects all of the prayers, meditations and healing energy that were projected at it may have had?
And just another thought; what have we done to tick Mother Nature off so much?
This summer we have had an unusual number of enquiries about the care of salt lamps with all of this additional humidity and of course flood water. So if you are unsure or just curious about the proper care of your salt lamps, the following is for you:
Care Tips for Himalayan Salt Crystal Lamps.
Salt has hygroscopic properties; meaning it draws water or moisture from the surrounding atmosphere. Salt crystal lamps should therefore never be washed or sprinkled with water.
It is wise not to use them in bathrooms and kitchens, or near fish tanks. Keep them in the dryer rooms of the house. Salt lamps are not meant for outdoor use.
Usually, leaving the lamp on 24/7 is the best way to deal with humidity. If your lamp is still developing excess moisture you may need to store it away in a plastic bag, preferably sealed, until dryer conditions resume.
Tea-light salt lamps are best stored in a plastic bag when not in use. We leave ours out on a saucer at all times (only lighting it at night) and have found this to be ok - although evidence is there that moisture has gathered at times, but we are prepared to live with this.
As a precaution and to prevent damage to surfaces, it is a good idea to place your lamp on a plate or bowl to collect any excess moisture that may be drawn. Usually though, when it is on it is ok and this is in fact part of the process in which it acts as a natural negative air ioniser.
Leaving your lamp on as long as possible is the best way to deal with humidity and keeping it on every day provides the best air purifying results. This will not only maintain a constant negative ionizing process, but will repel the excess moisture build up around the lamp.
To clean your lamp or to remove dust, use a damp (not wet) cotton cloth or sponge. Try not to handle the lamp with your bare hands as this may leave oils from you skin that may effect the salt crystal lamp. It is best to turn your lamp of while you are cleaning it.
To replace the bulb; use a 15 or 25 watt incandescent bulb (clear or colour) with an E14 size screw base. Gently pull the bulb socket from the lamp base by the cord, change the bulb and replace by compressing the side springs and inserting back into the core of the lamp. Make sure that the bulb is positioned in the centre of the core (not touching the side of the lamp). Also ensure that the bottom of the bulb holder is at the bottom of the core and not pushed in too far. Make sure the cord runs through one of the grooves on the base or your lamp and plug it back into your 240 volt outlet.
Most lamps up to 10 kilos are supplied with 15 watt globes and 25 watt globes for the larger sizes. With the supplied globes, the lamps are normally only warm to touch. Using a 25 watt globe in the smaller lamps may make them hot to touch, but is in no other way dangerous. In extreme humidity using a 25 watt globe can dispel more moisture, overcoming this bothersome problem.
Another thing about Salt Lamps - they dissolve in water! One of our customers contacted us to get some new salt lamps for her mother, who it seemed was having a hard time understanding where her lamps went to. Her house was among those that went under in the flood and of course all she had left was a cord and a base after the flood waters abated.

Stone of the month:
Selenite, also known as Satin Spar, is the crystal name for the mineral Gypsum. The word Selenite comes from the Greek meaning moon stone or rock, with the root word Selene meaning Moon. It exudes a pearly lustre that to a great extent resembles the glow of the moon. Selene is also the name of the Greek Goddess of the Moon.
Selenite (Gypsum) is a common sedimentary mineral and is the most common of all the sulphates. It commonly occurs as tabular, reticular, and columnar crystals, often with no imperfections or inclusions, and thereby can appear water or glass-like. Selenite crystals sometimes form in thin tabular or Mica-like sheets that have been used as replacements for glass panes.
Selenite is almost always prismatic and fibrous in a parallel crystal habit. It often occurs in seams; some of them quite long, and is often attached to a matrix or base rock, but can also be commonly found as entire free-floating crystals, often in clay beds. It is most often silky, fibrous, and translucent and can exhibit some colouration caused by mineral inclusion.
Selenite is a natural insulator and will appear much warmer to the touch than other crystals. Industrial grades are used in making plasterboard sheeting, concrete, and plaster of Paris. Selenite is often vitreous, pearly and silky to the touch, and may exhibit chatoyancy. It also has a fibre optic quality that has the ability to double refract, and some Selenite specimen's exhibit fluorescence and phosphorescence. When cut across the fibres and polished on the ends, it exhibits an optical illusion when placed on a printed or pictured surface; and is often called and sold as the "television stone" (as is Ulexite).
Selenite crystals can be massive, but are very soft. Often fibrous, it can be easily broken or scratched. In fact it can be scratched with just a fingernail and is between 1½ and 2 on Mohs scale. Because of its softness and with its formation being related to water Selenite should never be left in any liquid, as the water will degrade and eventually dissolve the mineral, and all cleansers should be avoided as they may affect its lustre.
A famous location for Selenite blades is the Naica Mine in Chihuahua, Mexico which is also called the "Cave of Swords". Here giant crystals have formed, with some measuring over nine meters long.
An ancient stone, Selenite is nevertheless one of the most powerful crystals for the new vibration on earth. The purest translucent white Selenite has an ethereal element and is said to occupy the space between light and matter. This is a calm stone that instils deep peace and is excellent for meditation or spiritual work. It has a very fine vibration that brings clarity of mind and allows access to angelic consciousness and higher guidance. It is a link to your 'light body' and helps to anchor it in the earth vibration. Holding a piece of 'pure vibration' Selenite will enhance telepathy. Selenite carries an imprint of all that has happened in the world and makes an excellent tool for scrying, allowing access to the past and a view to the future.
Placing Selenite in the corners of the house will form a protective grid that will create a safe and quiet space and will keep unwanted influences out. A large piece in the house ensures a peaceful atmosphere. Wands are useful for detaching entities from the aura and for preventing external influence of the mind.
Selenite assists with judgement and insight. It also clears confusion and lends a hand in seeing the deeper picture. It brings about a conscious understanding of what has been happening at the subconscious level. This crystal is powerful in dispersing and stabilising erratic emotions.
Selenites finest healing occurs at the energetic level. It is an excellent crystal for breastfeeding and nurturing a child. This stone promotes flexibility and aligns the spinal column. It guards against epileptic seizures. It neutralises mercury poisoning usually caused by dental amalgam and reverses the effects of "free radicals."
Crystal Tips and Techniques
Peace and calm - A very effective way to bring peace and calm and soft mood lighting into your home or office is to use a Selenite lamp.
Angelic attraction - Selenite placed under your pillow can attract angelic energy into your life. It can also link you to your soul's purpose.
Safe haven baby room - Griding a baby or child's room with Selenite is an excellent way to ensure a calm, soothing, nurturing and safe environment for them to grow up in. Adding Rose Quartz or Mangano Calcite placed under the bed or cot will add to a restful nights sleep. Make sure these crystals are large enough not to be swallowed or are placed securely out of harms way.
Wealth attraction - A large Citrine Geode is a highly decorative and attractive crystal. It is a beautiful object in its own right and placed in the Wealth Corner (furthest left rear corner from the front door) of your home or office, it will attract wealth and help you keep it.
Personal protection - Smokey Quartz has the ability to turn back and absorb negative energy and electromagnetic smog as it radiates its own pure clean energy. Wearing a piece around your neck, like a pendant or a tumble stone encased in a wire cage, protects you against electromagnetic emanations including mobile phones and computers, and turns back psychic attack. A large Smokey Quartz point or cluster can look stunning, decorating your work space, while it belies its practical cleansing and protecting qualities. It is best placed between you and the source of electromagnetic smog or geopathic stress, or position it on your desk.
An Amethyst Geode can have the same effect.
Staying sharp - If you find that working with computers has a debilitating effect on you, it can be overcome by placing a piece of Fluorite or Lepidolite beside your computer. You will be amazed at the difference in how you feel. As a bonus, your computer will work more harmoniously with you!
