Hello, it’s August already and winter only has one month to run. The 1^st of this month is the official birthday for horses. For our horse Denny it was his 26^th, and this year, we thought it might be the day we had to dig a big hole for him.

Earlier in the week he had been his usual lively self. One morning we left him running and jumping around (pretty frisky for an old horse) to return home to a horse, that you would sware was drunk. He could hardly move and when he did, it was with great difficulty and he swaggered.

Naturally we called on the best of our healing practices, including asking or praying for help, but nothing seemed to make any difference. You could see he was in pain. Next we called in the vet, she eliminated fractures and joint problems, and she also tested for and dismissed laminitis, and was generally just as perplexed as us. The only thing was to put him on pain killers and wait and see what happens.

A couple of days later she re-examined him and he was moving normally, except now he had a huge swelling, full of fluid under his rib cage. She was as perplexed as us. Blood tests also came back inconclusive, other than suggesting he wasn’t taking up protein properly. Hopefully as time goes on he will repair and return to normal.

My reason for relating this story is that sometimes we just have to acknowledge our limitations and hand such affairs over to the hands of God, Grace, Mother Nature or whomever. We just have to relax and trust that all will come out for the best, whatever that may be. On this occasion it looks like Denny will be around for a bit longer yet!

Stone of the month.

For all those born in the month of August, your Birthstone is Peridot.

Peridot is a gem variety from the Olivine mineral group, - the bottle green color is usually called Peridot – the yellowish green colour is usually called Chrysolite – the olive green is usually called Olivine. In common usage all names are applied across the group.

Peridot is mentioned in many ancient texts as Chrysolite, and was believed to keep away evil spirits. Considered sacred by early Christians, today Catholic Bishops still wear a ring of Peridot and Amethyst as a symbol of purity and morality.

Peridot was believed to be a stone of springtime by ancients who considered it a gift from Mother Nature, it was also known as a stone of lightness and beauty.

Peridot has been used as a Power Stone for centuries.  It promotes emotional balance, and helps us heal from past emotional wounds. It clears a pathway to the heart and heals damaged egos, relieving burdens, guilt and obsessions. It alleviates anger, jealousy, bitterness, and reduces stress. Allows you to confidently assert yourself and also teaches you how to forgive yourself and move forward, taking responsibility for your own life.

Peridot helps you move past the hurt and understand your relationships.  It adds intelligence to your romantic situations, giving you a bit of common sense in affairs of the heart, and protecting you from unnecessary heartache. Its influence can greatly improve all relationships, especially difficult ones.

Peridot is particularly helpful to healers.  A Visionary stone, it brings understanding of your destiny and spiritual purpose. Releases negative vibrations, and promotes clarity and well being.

This stone is a powerful cleanser, releasing and neutralizing toxins on all levels. It has a tonic effect. Strengthens the metabolism, heals and regenerates tissue and organs, stimulating healthy new growth. Facilitate the birth process, by stimulating contractions and opening the birth canal. Article - Divination with Crystals

Crystals vibrate with energy that many of us can see or feel. The wisdom and knowledge deep within stones can be accessed and the energy used to guide us in our daily life. Crystals can be used to answer questions and to help make decisions.

The use of crystals and stones to see into the future and to determine the answers to questions has a long history within many cultures. Many methods of divination have been used over the centuries to discover answers to questions about life and the future, for example, Pendulum Divination, Rune Divination, Oracle Card Divination and Rune Divination.

Following are some ways you can use crystals or gemstones for divination.

Try this quick divination method where a yes or no answer to your question will suffice.

1. Put 13 stones in a bag - hold and gently shake the bag while thinking of the question.
2. When you are ready close your eyes open the bag and quickly pull out some stones.
3. Open your eyes. If you have an odd number of stones in your hand the answer is ‘no’. If you have an even number of stones in your hand the answer is ‘yes’.

Another quick method is to place the stones below into a bag. Concentrate on your question – and then pick out a stone at random; then look at the meaning associated with it to find your answer. Should two or three crystals fall into your hand, read all the meanings together to get your answer.

A Three stone reading for a question that needs more than a yes or no answer.

Take one of each of the stones below, cleanse them and place them in a bag (preferably linen or felt). With all stones in the bag, shuffle them around a bit, close your eyes, and think of the question you want answered and take out three stones, one at a time.

1. Take out the first stone and place it in front of you.
2. Take out the second stone and place it to the right of the first stone.
3. Take out the third stone and place it to the right of the second stone.
4. The first stone is your recent past, the second stone is the present, and the third stone is the near future.
5. Think about the three stones together.

It is often a good idea to keep a written record of the questions, chosen stones, and the interpretation and answers, and review this in a few weeks.

Smoky Quartz is connected with stability, personal responsibility &/or inner resources. Sodalite is connected with protection, sleep, healing, fidelity, dreaming &/or intuition.

Crystal Tips and Techniques.

Crystals are excellent for dealing with headaches!

 Stress headaches are best dealt with by placing an Amethyst, Amber, Turquoise or a Smokey Quartz on the brow to relieve it.
     Lapis Lazuli or Aventurine will quickly draw off a migraine, also consider Rhodochrosite and Iolite.
     A Blue Agate slice placed on your brow is very effective, but it makes it feel worse to begin with.
     If it is related to food you might try a stone that will calm the stomach also, stones such as Moonstone or Citrine would be appropriate. Try Ametrine placed on the stomach.
     For a headache arising from poor posture or neck tension, consider using Magnetite (Loadstone) on the base of the skull.
     Good results are usually obtained just by placing the stones on the brow or temple, unless otherwise directed. Better effect is gained by lying down in a quiet environment.
     Sometimes placement on the crown or back of head brings better results, so experiment.
     Lavender oil is also effective at relieving headaches, rub it directly onto your temples, or add a few drops to your bath. 
     Why not try some in an oil burner at the  same time, to speed things along.
     A friend swears by using a tea towel soaked in brown vinegar, placed over his crystals on his brow for fast and effective relief.
